I have a question on genetics........Black/lavender split orpington chickens.........would a white tip ensure a black/lavender split? Or could a white tip feather also be black/blue split? Is this a stupid question?

Well, after reading everything I could get my hands on, I'll have to make the decision to keep the red banded rooster.  The yellow banded one came from my first hatch, that was for Leslie and I can't be 100% sure he is a lavender split, as I had blue eggs ( she likes the blues) in the bator too. I was hoping that this white tip on his feather meant lavender, but I don't know. He is definitely the pick I would make if I knew for sure.  I use ya'll for a sounding board..:)...talk to myself a lot lately trying to get the best decision.......But I'll go with the 100% sure one.

The white tip on his wing is a flaw, Not a indication of linage. Just like the one with red or buff hackles. Just a random mutation. Good luck!
