Title: Incubator Scare
Post by: Peacerose on April 28, 2016, 12:05:09 PM
Tuesday night we had a big thunderstorm roll through.  The power was out for nearly an hour.  All I could think about was the poor little eggs.  When the power came on the temp in the bator was 94.7.  I'm thinking the core of the eggs stayed warmer than that.

Other than that everything is okay.  No tornadoes or hail here.

Yea.  Kansas is really getting a deluge.  We've just been getting the spotty tail end of what y'all are getting.

Apparently the eggs in the bator were unharmed because I've got little buckeyes and brassy backs hatching!

Sweet! I'm glad you're able to rebuild your buckeye flock. I know how much you liked them. I think the bantams are a trait you need to be born with. Like cats.... I wasn't.... I understand it, they are neat little guys. Never could get excited about them thou....I'm hatching some "Show quality" Black Breasted Old English for a local girl now. I guess at this point, I'm the local incubation slut...... Big ones ,little ones, I'll hatch'em all free...

Six little buckeyes and two brassy back chicks!  They are very active and healthy looking!  I've got a whole lot of buckeye chicks now:  nine total from Bill, seven from my birds, and five from the hen that did it "old-school".  Total = 21.  I've been trying to get a picture of the hen with her chicks, but the chicks are so fast, they run out of the picture before it takes.  Its so cute to watch them scratching and exploring.

Yea, I'm really excited about the way the  Buckeye flock is coming together.  One more batch of eggs in the bator.  Also focusing on getting more Cathunter brassy back chicks.  So far only two of those.
