This week Rosemary, my lead Royal Palm hen, developed an eye infection.  The vet prescribed three days of antibiotic shots (DS?) and eye ointment twice a day.   So I had to catch her and handle her for all this and my son or husband had to help with the shots.  Rosemary took it all in stride like the special bird that she is, but Sage was OUTRAGED.  He didn't attack, but did a dominance strut that I only saw once before at the start of breeding season.  At that time it was not directed at me.   The dance included pounding the tips of his wings on the ground while shuffling his feet backward like moonwalking.  At the same time he was drumming and making other noises I had never heard before.  The best part was at the end he put his wing over Rosemary, just in case there was any doubt whose girl she was.  It was all pretty amazing and I'd rather be danced at than attacked.

Rosemary has finished her shots and the eye looks much better.  I'm going to continue the eye ointment for a few more days to be sure the infection doesn't start back up.
